Nonresident Violator Compact (NRVC)

The NRVC states that a driver receives a moving violation, if it is reported within 6 months of the time the violation was caused, than that driver is responsible for the citation, no matter where they are residing.  The purpose of the NRVC is to insure that nonresidents and residents comply with the terms of the traffic citation, no matter where the citation was issued.  This applies to standard moving violations that do not require a court appearance.

For non-CDL drivers, violation can only be reported within the first 6 months of the violation date.  For CDL drivers there is no time limit from the date of the violation.

If you live in a state that is a part of the NRVC, you can contact the courthouse that is listed on your citation to see what your options are for out-of-state payments or appearances.
